
A night after letting a 4th-quarter lead slip in a loss to Allen County-Scottsville, the Todd County Central boys’ basketball team drew even in the 4th quarter with Campbellsville, before pulling out an 85-78 victory in the Warren East Holiday Hoops Classic.
The Rebels snap a 3-game losing streak to move to 4-6 overall, while Campbellsville slips to 3-5.
Todd County big man Jon Calvery started his big night with 10 first-quarter points to help the Rebels to a 16-14 lead. Calvery and Clayte Weathers each had 8 in the second quarter, but Malachi Corley scored 9 of his 15 first-half points for Campbellsville, and the Todd County lead was only 37-34.
Corley continued to carry the Eagles after the break, dropping 10 in the third quarter to help erase the Rebel lead and take a 1-point edge into the final 8 minutes.
Calvery would go scoreless in the fourth for Todd County, but Deonte Toliver stepped up with 11 points, and Austin Rager added 6. Corley added 8 more and Arren Hash tossed in 6 for the Eagles, but the Rebels were able to tie the game at 74-74 and force overtime.
Toliver and Calvery scored 5 and 4, respectively, in overtime, and the Rebels held Corley to a single bucket to outscore the Eagles 11-4 and pick up the 85-78 victory.
Corley finished with 36, followed by Hash and Nataj Sanders with 10 each.
For Todd County, Calvery led the way with 30, Toliver had 21, 16 in the fourth quarter and OT, and Weathers finished with 12. Rager was the fourth Rebel in double figures with 10.
Todd County will have a nice break before returning to the court on December 27 as part of the South Central Bank-Halton Classic at Allen County-Scottsville. The Rebels will face the 2-4 Daviess County Panthers.
