Christian County Wins the “Battle of the Colonels” 79-71

After starting off the season with a couple of tough losses, it appears the Christian County Colonels are starting to find their stride already. Christian County hit the road Friday night and won the battle of the 2nd Region Colonels over Henderson County 79-71.

Christian County got off to a great start in the contest, hitting Henderson County with a 12-2 run to open the game. Christian County would nudge the lead on out to 19-7 by the end of the opening quarter.

Despite some first half foul trouble, Christian County was able to build on the lead in the second quarter. By the time the two teams headed off to the locker room, Christian County seemed to be in full control of the game, leading Henderson 42-25. A 13-3 run to close out the half was big for the southern Colonels.

Henderson County tried to use their long ball attack to get back in the game during the 3rd quarter. Still, when the quarter ended, Christian County was up 60-47.

The nothern Colonels would have one more big push in them. As the three point shots began to fall for Henderson, the gap began to narrow. Henderson would trim the lead to seven points with just over four minutes left in the game. Henderson would get as close as five, but Christian County was able to hold on and pick up the eight point win.

Christian County was led by Fred Tandy with 16 points. Damikeon Mathis added 14, while Olajuwon White contributed 13.

Myekel Sanners was the leading scorer for Henderson County with 18 points. Corey Stewart added 16.

Christian County now stands at 3-2 for the season. Henderson County drops to 5-1.
