While it could all change following a massive 2nd Region showdown tonight between our #1 and our #2, for the moment, the UHA Blazers continue to tighten their grip on the top spot in this week’s Boys 2nd Region “Super 7.” We have a little bit of a shuffle outside of the top 2, with one new team this week, and one team falling out.
1. UHA (5-0) – The Blazers rallied to pick up a big district win Tuesday night on the road at Hopkinsvlle. They can really set themselves at the top of the “Super 7” with a win against Madisonville. And, if possible, the schedule gets even tougher for the rest of 2018.
2. Madisonville (4-1) – The Maroons had to battle to get a 7th District win against crosstown rival Hopkins Central. However, that is a rivalry game, and we all know how those can be, and the Maroons still won by double digits. Thursday night, they are on the road at UHA, enough said.
3. Hopkinsville (4-2) – The Tigers gave UHA everything they wanted, and then some, in an epic battle Tuesday night. Also, over the past week, they went on the road and picked up road wins against Christian County and Bardstown in two very different style games. This team can be very very dangerous going forward.
4. Henderson County (4-0) – The Colonels from the north still have not lost. But, still want to see what they can do against some of the better teams in the 2nd Region. Friday night, we may find out just a little more about this team, as they host Christian County.
5. Christian County (2-2) – The southern Colonels have rebounded from an 0-2 start with solid wins over Doss and Owensboro. Much like the Colonels from the north, we should get a better feel for this team after their game against Henderson County Friday night.
6. Lyon County (5-3) – The loss to Dawson Springs appears to be a blip on the radar, as the Lyons have come back with wins against Union County and Webster County, without Gabe Board on the floor. Travis Perry and company may have this team inching up the list if they keep this up.
7. Caldwell County (3-2) – The Tigers, like Christian County opened 0-2, and have now rebounded. The Tigers have picked up wins over Webster County, Crittenden County, and Muhlenberg County on the road. And, we all know that winning on the road in the 3rd is no small accomplishment. The only thing keeping the Tigers from being higher right now is their head-to-head loss to Lyon.
