After Tuesday’s loss to University Heights, Trigg County Coach Cory Coble challenged his team with two district games coming up in a week. Despite falling behind 9-0 early, the Lady Wildcats answered his challenge with a 68-30 win over Livingston Central Friday at Wildcat Gym.

The 38-point win was Trigg’s largest over their district rival since 1980 and snapped an 18-game losing streak to Livingston Central.

With the Lady Wildcats struggling out of the gate, Trigg turned to their defense to create some offense. The Lady Wildcats forced 13 turnovers and outscored Livingston 16-4 to end the quarter.

For the night, Trigg County scored 47 points off 42 Livingston turnovers. Not helping matters for the Lady Cardinals was the loss of their leading scorer Lauren Wring to a first half injury. She scored five points but did not play in the second half.

Trigg held the Lady Cardinals to single digits in each of the final three quarters.

The Lady Wildcats had three players score in double figures, led by Emily Noffsinger’s 15 points. Rylee Bush added 13 points and six steals. Bethany Stallons scored 11 points and had six steals.

Gracie Downey had eight points for Livingston Central, who dropped to 0-6 overall and 0-2 in district play.

Trigg County is 2-3 overall and off to their first 2-0 district start since 1995-96. The Lady Wildcats will play Madisonville Saturday in the Messenger Tipoff Classic in Madisonville.
