The Caldwell County Lady Tigers held a narrow lead over Christian County at the half on Friday night, before the Lady Colonels used a big second half to claim a 59-44 victory. Both teams now stand at 1-1 on the year.
The teams were tied at 10-10 after the opening quarter, with Caldwell’s Bella McConnell scoring 7 points and Christian County’s Aaliyah Hampton posting 6. Hampton added 6 more in the second frame, but the Lady Tigers took a 22-21 lead into the halftime break.
Caldwell scored the first 6 points of the second half, but the Lady Colonels closed the quarter on a 17-4 run, fueled by 5 points each from Hampton and Kinara Phillips, to open up a 38-32 advantage going into the final frame.
The Lady Colonels posted their highest-scoring quarter in the fourth, outscoring Caldwell 21-12 to close out the victory. Hampton finished off her 24-point night with 7 over the last 8:00, while Phillips added 6.
Phillips and Bianna Snorton joined Hampton in double figures for the Lady Colonels with 13 and 10, respectively. McConnell led the Lady Tigers with 10, followed by Jada Boyd and Jacey Jaggers with 7 each. Both teams struggled from the free throw line, with Caldwell going 6 of 18 and Christian County 13 of 24.
Both teams will be on the road on Saturday, with the Lady Colonels facing Breckinridge County (3-0) in the Independence Bank Classic at Owensboro Catholic, and the Lady Tigers traveling to Webster County to meet Union County (1-1) in the 6th/7th District Challenge.
