Butler County used a quick start to pick up their first win of the season Friday and send Lyon County to their first loss, 78-59 in Eddyville.
The Bears jumped out to a 27-10 lead after one quarter, but the Lyons were able to chip away over the next two quarters. Lyon cut the deficit to 38-28 by halftime and 55-47 after three quarters. However, the Lyons could not find the bucket enough in the fourth quarter in getting outscored 23-12.
The Lyons hit 22-of-32 at the free throw line, but it wasn’t enough to overcome nine 3-pointers by Butler County.
Jackson Shoulders paced four Lyons in double figures with 16 points. Gabe Board scored 14 points, and Kade Blackburn added 12 points. Seventh grader Travis Perry had just one field goal but hit 12-of-15 free throws to finish with 14 points.
Jaden Hurt scored 21 of his 31 points in the second half, while Parker Rice hit five 3-pointers and finished with 29 points for Butler County (1-2).
Lyon County (1-1) will play Elliott County Sunday afternoon at the Marshall County Hoopfest.
