There was no movement in this Week’s YSE Girls’ Basketball Super 7, but Henderson County and Hopkinsville picked up impressive wins over teams picked in the top five of their respective regions and will be two teams that could make a move in the coming weeks.
1) Webster County (2-0) – The Lady Trojans are off to a strong start, including a 52-44 win over a Bowling Green team that could be a factor in the Fourth Region. Webster will play their first region opponent Saturday when they host Hopkins County Central.
2) Christian County (0-1) – Christian County stumbled out of the gate with a 63-53 loss to Muhlenberg County. However, the Lady Mustangs are a top-5 team in Region Three and a good opening test for Christian County. The Lady Colonels need to find more scoring balance to compliment their backcourt with some tough games looming in December.
3) Henderson County (1-0) – Emilee Hope knocked down seven 3-pointers in their opening win over Third Region foe Apollo. With four starters returning for Jeff Haile, the Lady Colonels could move into the region favorite role by late January of not earlier. They will get a good test Saturday when they play top-15 Elizabethtown in Owensboro.
4) Hopkinsville (1-0) – The Lady Tigers could be another team trending upward in the coming weeks after they spanked a Calloway County picked as a top-3 team in Region One. Hoptown’s next two games are against Clarksville schools. Their schedule gets tougher in mid-December.
5) Madisonville (1-0) – The Lady Maroons opened their season with a 59-42 win over Union County. They will get their first true test of the season Tuesday when they travel to No. 2 Christian County.
6) Caldwell County (1-0) – After an opening win at Lyon County Tuesday, the Lady Tigers will play at No. 2 Christian County Friday. How well Caldwell County can handle the pressure defense of Christian County will be the key factor in this one.
7) Hopkins County Central (1-0) – The Lady Storm opened with a 12-point win at University Heights Tuesday. Nancy Oldham’s squad will find out their place in the early region race in the next week as they play No. 1 Webster County and Muhlenberg County out of the Third Region.
