Hopkinsville sophomore Chase Atkins braved the cold and muddy conditions to bring home a top 50 finish at the 40th Foot Locker South Region Championships in Charlotte, North Carolina Saturday.
Atkins finished the 3.1-mile course in a time of 17:17 to finish 48th out of 250 runners in the sophomore male race. It’s the second straight year Atkins has run in the event.
Elsewhere, Eric Mitchell of Hendersonville, Tennessee finished 21st out of 216 runners in the junior male division, covering the 3.1-mile course in 16:42. Eric, the son of former Cadiz residents Keith and Stacy Marshall Mitchell, competes at Beech High School where he finished 19th in the state earlier this month.
