The 2nd Region is well represented in the Courier Journal’s boys basketball preseason Top 25. Three teams from the region are among those to be ranked headed into the beginning of the season, with two of those coming from the 8th District.
The UHA Blazers (23-8) are the highest ranked team out of the region, coming in at #7 in the preseason poll, which was based on input from some 100 coaches across the state.
The Hopkinsville Tigers (13-14), who failed to reach the regional tournament in 2018, under first year head coach Larry Miller, are ranked #18 in the state.
Madisonville (21-10), which lost in the regional semifinals in 2018, is ranked #24 in the preseason poll.
Both University Heights and Madisonville have been selected to play in this year’s King of the Bluegrass tournament in December at Fairdale High School.
Other western Kentucky teams ranked in the CJ’s preseason poll are: Warren Central (14th), Mayfield (22nd), and Bowling Green (25th).
Scott County is the preseason #1 according to the poll, with Trinity ranked #2.
