Austin Peay State University kicker Logan Birchfield has been named the Ohio Valley Conference Specialist of the Week, the conference announced Sunday.

Against Eastern Kentucky, Birchfield drilled a 45-yard field goal in the second quarter, which equaled his career-long set last season. Later in the quarter, he booted a 43-yarder to become the first kicker at Austin Peay to hit multiple 40-plus yard field goals in the same game since John Bell in 2008.

In addition to going 2-for-2 on field goal attempts, he also hit his lone extra point attempt to lead the Govs with seven points. He has hit on 5-of-7 field goals and 32-of-34 extra point attempts this season.

Birchfield becomes the second Gov to earn an OVC Player of the Week honor this season, as defensive end Nate Howard earned OVC Defensive Player of the Week for his performance against Tennessee State on Oct. 6. It is the first-career OVC Player of the Week honor for Birchfield.

Birchfield and the Governors will return to action 1 p.m., Saturday, when they travel to Eastern Illinois to take on the Panthers.
