Weston Wood produced the best finish by a University Heights Academy golfer at the state tournament Saturday as he tied for 58th place.

The Blazer junior became the first UHA male golfer to make the cut at the Leachman Auto/KHSAA State Golf Tournament after firing a 5-over 77 Friday at the Bowling Green Country Club.

On Saturday, Wood shot identical scores of 43 on each side of the course for a +14 score of 86. Wood had eight pars in his round but was unable to score any birdies – mainly due to the wet greens covered in dew from the early Saturday morning start.

Wood finished the tournament at +19, which was the fourth best score of any Region Two golfer. Wood was the first golfer since Tadd Switzer in 2012 to qualify for the state tournament. He joins Anna Moore, who tied for 31st in the 2013 girls’ tourney, as the only UHA golfers to advance to the second round of the state tournament.
