
Hopkinsville went 1-4 over the weekend at the Toyota of Hopkinsville West Kentucky Smackdown and now set their sights on the postseason.
In pool play, the Lady Tigers beat Trigg County 2-0 (25-12, 25-18) but lost to Southwestern 2-0 (26-24, 25-18) and Owensboro Catholic 2-0 (25-20, 25-17).
Once they moved into the Bronze Division, they opened with a three-set loss to Paducah Tilghman 25-19, 23-25, 25-23.
That loss dropped them into the consolation round where they lost to Hopkinsville in three sets 25-19, 12-25, 27-25.
The first set featured five ties, but the Lady Colonels kept their rival at arm’s length and won the set 25-19.
The second set was tied 9-9, but Hopkinsville finished with a 16-3 run to claim a convincing 25-12 win. Karalyn Beamer had four kills during the deciding run for Hoptown.
The third set was a tight one featuring nine ties. Christian County appeared to have the set in hand with a 15-7 lead, but Hopkinsville battled back to tie the set at 19, 20, 21, 22, 24, and 25. The Lady Colonels scored the final two points for the 27-25 win.
Beymer led Hopkinsville with nine kills in the match, with Sarah Cavanah adding seven and Hope Pace four.
Hopkinsville (8-22) will play Christian County (13-19) again Tuesday in the semifinals of the Eighth District Tournament at Fort Campbell.
