A pair of Murray State student-athletes were named Ohio Valley Conference Golfer of the Week as announced by the league office in Franklin, Tennessee.
Senior Linette Holmslykke of the MSU women’s team and junior Austin Knight of the men’s team had some great play to earn the honor this week and both lead the OVC in scoring currently. Knight shared his award with Morehead State’s Connor Collins.
Holmslykke, from Vejle, Denmark, had her third-straight second place finish, this time in a field of 67 at the F&M Bank Austin Peay Intercollegiate at Clarksville (TN) Country Club. The senior carded rounds of 72-75-71 to finish at 218 (+2), finishing one shot behind ULM’s Johaanvie Walia and five shots ahead of third place. Her performance sparked the Racers, who turned a four-shot deficit into a 12-shot victory during the final round. MSU topped the field that included six total OVC teams. Holmslykke currently leads the OVC in stroke average (72.3) through three events.
Knight, from Hopkinsville, Kentucky, claimed medalist honors at the Skyhawk Classic held at Paris Landing Golf Course in Buchanan, Tenn. The junior had scores of 70-67-68 to finish at 205 (-11), which was eight shots better than second place. It marked his first medalist crown since April of last season. He helped the Racers finish second in a field of seven teams, including two other OVC squads. Knight currently leads the OVC in scoring average (69.1).
Next up for the MSU men’s squad is the Rex Chaney Classic (Oct. 6) at Eagle Trace GC in Morehead and the MSU women travel to Monroe, Louisiana, (Oct. 15-16) for the Fred Marx Invitational at Bayou Desaird CC.
