When the AP Top-25 was released on Sunday afternoon, the Kentucky Wildcats heard their name called for the first time in 11 years. After their 28-7 beatdown of the Mississippi State Bulldogs on Saturday night, en route to their first ever 4-0 start under head coach Mark Stoops, the Wildcats are currently ranked 17th in the country.
It’s Kentucky’s highest ranking in the AP poll since October 20th, 2007, when they were ranked seventh in the country following a victory over top-ranked LSU.
Kentucky thus far has boasted wins over Central Michigan, at 25th ranked Florida, over Murray State and their latest win coming last night over the 14th ranked Bulldogs.
Behind Heisman trophy candidate Benny Snell Jr., along with first round prospect Josh Allen, Kentucky could very well find themselves winning double-digit games this season. If so, it would be for the first time in 31 years (dating back to 1977) when the team went 10-1 under head coach Fran Curci to finish sixth in the AP poll.
The Wildcats will host South Carolina on Saturday, of which they’ve opened as a surprising two-point underdog.
