
After losing 3-1 to the 13-2 Warren Central Lady Dragons early Saturday morning, the Hopkinsville girls’ soccer team bounced back in a big way with a 6-2 victory over Logan County (9-5) to take 3rd place in the Colonel Showcase. The Lady Cougars entered play on a 6-game win streak at 9-3 overall. The Lady Tigers have now won 4 of 5 to even their record at 7-7.
The Lady Tigers found themselves down 3-0 at the half in their opening match against Warren Central, before Ana Hernandez scored late for the final margin. In the night cap, Hoptown took a 3-0 lead into the halftime break behind 2 goals from Hernandez and an Abby Moss strike with seconds left in the first half.
Keeli Miles stretched the margin to 6 with 2 goals inside of the first 5 minutes of the second half, before Hernandez completed her hat trick with a converted penalty kick. The Lady Cougars’ Hannah Goss scored 2 late goals for the final 6-2 score.
The Lady Tigers return to 2nd Region competition on Tuesday when Madisonville-North Hopkins (11-2) comes to the Stadium of Champions.
