The Hopkinsville boys’ soccer team jumped out to a 2-0 lead Thursday night at McCracken County, but it was downhill from there as they fell 5-2 to the Mustangs. The Tigers are winless in three games, all against top-notch competition, slipping to 8-5-1 overall. The Mustangs have won three-straight and eight of nine to improve to 10-3.
Ryan Roussel scored 10 minutes in off an assist by Zach Moore, with Roussel doubling the lead just a minute later. The Mustangs responded with 3 goals in five minutes and led 4-2 at the halftime break. McCracken held the Tiger attack at bay in the second half, adding a goal of its own for the final 5-2 score.
The Tigers’ Xavier Bussell allowed 4 first-half goals, with Ethan Bailey allowing the final score while making 2 saves in the second half. Kevin Pastor had 2 goals and an assist for the Mustangs, joined on the score sheet by Jaxon Allard, Reese Bohde and Ian Leatherman. Leatherman also had an assist, as did Baker Allard, Johnny Kirkpatrick and Jaxson Miller.
The Tigers have a busy weekend ahead, playing Owensboro (10-3-1) and Franklin-Simpson (5-6) at Christian County’s Colonel Showcase at the Stadium of Champions on Saturday.
