University Heights Academy played even with Henderson County for 78 minutes. However, Max Wawrin scored two goals in a two-minute stretch to give the Colonels a 2-0 win over the Blazers.
Both teams played to a scoreless draw in a first half highlighted by missed chances and strong goalie play. Wawrin got the Colonels on the board 18 minutes into the second half on a nice redirect that found the right corner of the net. He wasn’t finished as he added another goal less than minutes later.
There really weren’t many more scoring chances by either team the rest of the way by either team as the defenses took control of the match.
The two-goal loss is the closest margin Henderson County has played UHA, who has never beaten the Colonels in program history, according to Blazer Coach Mike Smith.
Henderson County improved to 8-4-2 with the win. They are 3-1-1 against region schools.
UHA dropped to 7-3-1 with the loss and own a 4-2 record against Second Region teams. The Blazers host Madisonville Monday. The Maroons are the only region team to beat Henderson County this year.
