Both Hopkinsville and Caldwell County have been playing better defense in recent weeks, and it was the Hoptown defense that kept Caldwell out of the net in the final six minutes for a 3-2 win Tuesday at the Stadium of Champions.

Hoptown never trailed in the matchup of Lady Tigers as Kyler Scheben took a pass from Ana Hernandez and found the net just two minutes into the match for a quick 1-0 lead.

Caldwell County would tie the game nine minutes later when Sofie Littlefield cleaned up in the Caldwell goal box and found the net.

The tie wouldn’t last long as Hoptown’s Abby Moss knocked home a shot from 20 yards to put them ahead 2-1 in the 13th minute.

Just like they did in the first half, Hoptown struck quickly in the second as Hernandez poked in a shot out front for a 3-1 lead.

Both teams had chances over the next 30 minutes but couldn’t put together many solid scoring chances. With six minutes left, Hopkinsville was called for a handball in the goalbox that gave Caldwell’s Laney Fletcher a successful scoring chance on a penalty kick to draw Caldwell to within 3-2.

Caldwell County couldn’t get a decent look in the final six minutes and saw their brief two-game winning streak over Hoptown come to an end.

Caldwell County (5-9) will play their fourth of four straight road games Thursday at Fort Campbell.

Hopkinsville (5-6) will look for their first three-game winning streak of the season Thursday when they play Christian County at the Stadium of Champions.
