Trigg County soccer coach Josh Nichols said his Wildcat team had been flirting with losing in several close wins in recent weeks. That prophecy proved true Saturday as Mayfield handed the Wildcats a 1-0 loss at the Complex.

Austin Raiyney converted a penalty kick in the 60th minute for the game’s lone goal for the Cardinals, who got an outstanding effort in goal from Diego Juarez who knocked away several breakaway chances by Trigg County. Juarez also saved a penalty kick chance by the Wildcats in the 63rd minute.

Trigg County had their chances, outshooting the Cardinals 9-2 but was shut out for the second time this season.

The Wildcats see their five-game winning streak snapped in falling to 8-2 on the season. Trigg had beaten Mayfield 2-1 Thursday night.

Trigg County is right back in action Monday as they travel to Lyon County for a district contest. The Wildcats beat Lyon 6-0 on Aug. 28.
