The Christian County Lady Colonels have had their struggles at times during the 2018 season. Thursday night, the Lady Colonels took a big step forward with a four set win over 8th District rival Hopkinsville in a match played at Colonel Gym.

However, the night did not get off to a promising start for Christian County. Behind the strong serves from Chandler Adams, Hopkinsville used an 11-0 run to go from 8-6 down to up 17-8 in the opening set. Hopkinsville then went on to win the set 25-18. Hope Pace, Karalyn Beymer, and Sarah Cavanah all had big first sets. Pace had four kills, with Beymer and Cavanah coming up with three each.

The match then turned in the 2nd set. Hopkinsville opened the set 10-3 and looked to be cruising. Christian County came storming back to tie the set at 14-14. The Lady Colonels would go on to even the match by taking the set 25-19.

Jaquavia Bailey and Macy Baker were big during the set for Christian County.

In the 3rd set, the two teams stood toe-to-toe, giving each other their best shots. They battled back and forth until Christian County finished the set on a 7-2 run to take the set 25-21.

Then, it was Ariyonna Johnson time. The Christian County senior took things over in the final set. Unofficially, Johnson had three aces and five kills in the 4th set, as Christian County held on to take the set 25-23. It wasn’t easy, as Hopkinsville fell behind 16-8, but then came back to tie the set at 18-18. Johnson and Macy Baker then closed out strong for Christian County to seal the win.

Baker ended up with 12 kills for Christian County, while Johnson had ten kills and five aces.

Karalyn Beymer had 10 kills for Hopkinsville, with Hope Pace adding nine. Sarah Cavanah chipped in with seven kills and three aces.

Christian County improves to 6-12 overall, and 2-1 in the district. Hopkinsville drops to 2-8 overall, and 2-2 in the district.
