Henderson County is off to a blazing start and they hold on to the top spot again this week in the YSE girls’ soccer Super 7. They cleared one hurdle with a 4-1 win over Madisonville-North Hopkins and a September 20 meeting with UHA may be their last regional stumbling block.
1. Henderson County (6-0-1) -The Lady Colonels turned in an impressive week to cement their place at the top of the rankings, knocking off Marshall County and Madisonville-North Hopkins on the road by matching 4-1 scores. While the Lady Colonels still have a number of big games with competition from outside the region, their match with UHA on September 20 figures to be their toughest challenge from within the 2nd Region.
2. University Heights Academy (3-0) -The Lady Blazers breezed through the 2nd Region All A tournament with a 10-1 win over Fort Campbell and an 11-1 victory over Lyon County. School trips mean the Lady Blazers didn’t play this week, with their next game a road match-up with Caldwell County on September 1.
3. Madisonville-North Hopkins (5-1) -After a dominating 7-0 win over Owensboro, the Lady Maroons dropped their first match of the season 4-1 to Henderson County. No shame there, so they hold on to the third spot this week. After what figures to be a tough match with Marshall County on Thursday, the Lady Maroons will look to remain unbeaten in the 7th District when they host Caldwell County on September 4.
4. Hopkins County Central (3-1) -The Lady Storm continue to fly under the radar, but three wins over 2nd Region competition and a respectable 4-0 loss to Madisonville keep them at number four for the second week. With a stretch of very winnable games coming up, it may be late September in back-to-back matches with Trigg County and Caldwell County that we find out much more about the Lady Storm.
5. Caldwell County (4-4) -The Lady Tigers leap into the rankings on the strength of a 5-1 victory over Trigg County last Thursday, followed by blowout wins over Paducah Tilghman and St. Mary. A September 1 match with UHA will reveal just how far the Lady Tigers have come.
6. Hopkinsville (3-3) -The Lady Tigers only played once since the last rankings came out, a 9-2 road loss to a tough Ohio County team that only fell to Henderson by a score of 4-1. Hoptown faces a brutal and defining stretch over its next four matches, with Marshall County, Henderson County, UHA and Fort Campbell on the schedule.
7. Fort Campbell (2-2) -The Lady Falcons only played once since last week’s rankings, a 7-2 win in Elkton over Todd County Central. They will face a challenge on Thursday to hold onto their ranking when they go on the road to Trigg County. The Lady Wildcats will be hungry for a statement win after back-to-back 5-1 losses to Caldwell and Lyon knocked them out of the Super 7.
