Not many changes this week in the YSE 2nd Region volleyball “Super 7.” The top 3 appear pretty solid at the moment, with the surprising Crittenden County Lady Rockets looking like the early season darkhorse. Still, you get the feeling that some teams who are struggling here at the beginning of the season will still have some things to say about it before all is said and done.
– Caldwell County (7-2) – The Lady Tigers dispatched Madisonville handily, and then went 2-1 at the Best of the West, losing only to South Warren, who was in the final four last season. That is enough to keep Caldwell County at the top this week.
– Henderson County (7-5) – The Lady Colonels began to look a little bit more like their normal selves this past week. After getting swept by a very good Apollo team, they went 3-0 at the Best of the West. Circle October 4th on your calendar.
– UHA (10-2) – The Lady Blazers won the 2nd Region All A Classic and swept Hopkinsville at home. That makes for a pretty good week and keeps the Lady Blazers firmly in the #3 spot for the time being. Will be interesting to see how a week off affects this team that is on a roll here early in the season.
– Crittenden County (9-1) – The only team to make an upward move, and it is a loss that was the main factor in the decision to move the Lady Rockets up. Crittenden County lost a three set heartbreaker to UHA in the All A regional final, with that set decided 15-13. Will be interesting to watch this team moving forward.
– Hopkinsville (1-5) – A tough week for the Lady Tigers. They lost to 8th District rival UHA in straight sets. Then, they go to the Bluegrass Invitational Volleyball Tournament and drop three. This is a talented team still trying to find its footing. Be wary in the days in the weeks ahead.
– Madisonville (5-6) – The Lady Maroons are in that middle section of the region, where they don’t appear to be able to compete with the top of the region at this point, but are a good step ahead of the teams below them. Their head to head win over Christian County is what keeps them a spot ahead of the Lady Colonels this week.
– Christian County (3-8) – The Lady Colonels had a good week a couple of weeks back, but then struggled at the Bluegrass Invitational Volleyball Tournament. We will get a good gauge of where they are tonight when they take on #6 Madisonville.
