It was a pretty good way to rebound for the Hopkinsville Tigers Tuesday night. The Tigers were coming off a 4-2 loss Saturday at Daviess County. It was a match where the Tigers looked to be in control at the half, but let it get away from them in the second half to a very good Panther team.
Just like Saturday, the Tigers got out to a 2-0 halftime lead at Madisonville Tuesday night. This time however, there was no comeback for the opponent on their home field, as the Tigers, along with goalie Xavier Bussell kept the shutout intact, and the Tigers picked up a big 2-0 win over the Maroons.
The Tigers got on the board early in the match, as Ryan Roussel scored just two minutes into the match to make it 1-0. Zach Moore got credit for the assist on Roussel’s goal.
Hopkinsville extended the lead at the 28 minute mark when Edwar Acosta found the net to make it a 2-0 Tiger lead.
Xavier Bussell ended up with seven saves in goal for the match. Six of those came in the first half of play. His teammates provided a huge assist in the second half as Bussell is recorded as only having to deal with one shot on goal in the second half of play.
The Tigers improve to 4-1 on the season, and will travel to Greenwood on Thursday. Madisonville drops to 5-1-1.
