Rossview held off a furious Christian County rally to beat the Colonels 31-26 Friday in Clarksville. The Hawks were able to avenge an 18-7 loss suffered to Christian County last year.

Christian County took a 6-3 lead when J’Lin Powell hit Tyler West for a touchdown in the first quarter.

Rossview jumped out to a 17-6 lead in the first half, with the second touchdown coming on a blocked punt that was returned for a score. Christian County added a score just before intermission to pull to within 17-13 when Jadonavin McNeal found the end zone from nine yards out.

The Hawks scored the first two touchdowns of the second half to grab a 31-13, with the second score coming on a pick-six. Rossview was driving for more before a Colonel interception seemed to ignite the sideline.

Powell added a pair of touchdown runs in the fourth quarter to bring the Colonels to within 31-26.

Late in the game, Christian County drove to the Rossview 8-yard line and on the game’s final play, saw their play across the middle deflected away and drop to the ground.

Powell threw for 126 yards and ran for 64 more, accounting for three total touchdowns. McNeal ran for 82 yards, and West hauled in three passes for 104 yards and a score.

The Colonels fall to 1-1 on the season and will host Henderson County Friday at the Stadium of Champions. Henderson County is 1-1 after beating Evansville North 48-7.
