Full Field Announced for “King of the Bluegrass”

It has been known for a while that two 2nd Region teams would be taking part in the 2018 King of the Bluegrass basketball tournament. Thursday, the full field for the even was announced, and it appears the tournament is loaded with some very good teams for this year’s edition of the event, which takes place at Fairdale High School in Jefferson County.

In addition to University Heights and Madisonville, the tournament field includes:

Ballard High School (Louisville, KY) – Was 27-7 last season. Lost the in the 7th Region championship game to Trinity

Brentwood Academy (Nashville, TN) – Went 25-5 during 2017-2018 season.

Collins High School (Shelbyville, KY) – Was 22-10 last season, losing in the opening round of the 8th Region tournament

Evanston Township High School (Evanston, IL) Was 27-6 last season, winning the Class 4A Illinois state championship

Fairdale High School (Fairdale, KY) – Host school was 21-11 last season, losing in the opening round of the 6th Region tournament.

LaRue County High School (Hodgenville, KY) – Was 29-3 last season, losing in the 5th Region championship game to John Hardin 48-46

Lexington Christian Academy (Lexington, KY) – Was 27-8 last season. All A State Champion. Lost the 11th Region championship game to Scott County

Madison Central High School (Richmond, KY) – Was 25-8 last season, losing in the semifinal round of the 11th Region tournament

Male High School (Louisville, KY) – Was 17-14 last season, losing in the first round of the 7th Region tournament

South Miami Senior High School (Miami, FL) – Was 20-5 in the 2017-2018 season.

South Shore High School (Brooklyn, NY) – Was 18-9 last season.

Spencer County High School (Taylorsville, KY) – Was 20-8 last season, losing in opening round of 30th District tournament

Trinity High School (Louisville, KY) – Was 30-4 last season, losing in the opening round of the Sweet 16 to Scott County

Walton-Verona High School (Walton, KY) – Was 26-6 last season. Runner-up in the All A Classic. Lost in 8th Region opening round.

The 2018 King of the Bluegrass will be played December 19-23.
