
Despite losing for the first two times of the season, it was still a solid weekend at the Apollo Summer Slam for the UHA Lady Blazers. After going 1-2 during action Saturday in the Gold Bracket, UHA finished in 7th place out of the 24 teams in the event, with the big story of the weekend coming in the Lady Blazers final match.
The Lady Blazers opened play Saturday falling to 3rd Region foe Breckinridge County. The first set came down to a tight finish with Breckinridge County pulling out a 25-23 win. Breckinridge County then closed out the match with a 25-15 win.
UHA’s second match of the day Saturday was against 1st Region foe Graves County. The Lady Eagles came out and took the first set 25-16. Graves then sealed with match win by taking the second set 25-11.
The Lady Blazers then may have made a regional statement with their final match of the Summer Slam. UHA came away with a straight set win over defending 2nd Region champ Henderson County. The Lady Blazers took the opening set 25-22 and then closed out the match taking the second set 25-21.
UHA finishes the Summer Slam with a 7-2 record and will return to action Tuesday in the All A Classic.
