One of the surprise teams of the 2017 football season will get back to work this week. The Austin Peay Governors football team will report to fall camp on Thursday, and begin practicing on Friday. Many contributors return from last season’s squad that finished 8-4 and in second place in the Ohio Valley Conference. They will be joined Thursday by a group of talented newcomers looking to build on the success of last year’s team.
Will Healy, entering his third season at the helm of the Austin Peay program, will conduct the team’s first practice on Friday, beginning at 7:30am. Healy was recognized with the STATS FCS Eddie Robinson Award as the nation’s top coach in 2017. He was also named the Roy Kidd OVC Coach of the Year. The team will have seven practices – plus an off day to visit Fort Campbell – before holding its first scrimmage on Saturday, August 11 at 10am, at Fortera Stadium.
Practices are free and open to the public. Visitors may enter Fortera Stadium and sit in the west grandstand. The first week’s practice schedule is listed below. Future weeks’ schedules will be posted to LetsGoPeay.com – Austin Peay athletics’ official website – on Fridays during camp.
The Governors open their season on the road against the Georgia Bulldogs, the reigning SEC Champions and national FBS runner-up, on Saturday, September 1st at 2:30pm, on ESPN.
