The Hoptown Hoppers stole Game 1 of a best-of-three series with the Owensboro Riverdawgs for the Ohio Valley League crown. Nick Proto went yard in the eleventh inning to seal the deal on the road.
However, they were shutout at home in Game 2 and with a banged up roster, lost Game 3 as well, 9-2.
The Hoppers consistently left men on base, as they didn’t score a run for fifteen innings. In fact, their entire offense was generated by John Michael Reed who hit his first home run of the season and Sage Holderfield, who in his first at-bat of the year, singled to drive in Reed.
Hoptown ends the year at 26-22 and will head to Louisville on Monday for the first of three games in the Bluegrass World Series.
Monday’s game will be played against the Jasper Reds at 3:30 PM, followed by Tuesday’s game against Westchase Express at 3:30 PM. Their year will conclude with a game on Friday against the Louisville Stars at 7 PM. All times EDT.
