The Hoptown Hoppers received an invite to participate in this year’s Bluegrass World Series at Louisville Slugger Field. Monday, they faced the Hattiesburg Black Sox from Palmer’s Crossing in Mississippi.
While the Hoppers had some roster turnover due to players returning to school, there were some familiar faces in the field for Hoptown. Aidan Elias, Chandler Skelly, Cody Hartness, Davis Keller, Hassan Westbrook and Sam Traver all saw action.
The Hoppers also made OVL additions to their roster, snagging Matt Higgins from Fulton, Clayton Mehlbauer from Henderson as well as Cam Curry and Jakob Shuler from Owensboro.
There were even a couple of surprise appearances, as Hoppers head coach Brock Moss saw the plate twice and Hoppers assistant coach Michael Skelly pitched to his brother, Chandler.
Though the game resulted in a Hopper loss, 7-3, Higgins managed to go yard in the first inning to drive in the Hoppers’ three lone runs.
On Tuesday, they’ll return to action as they face the Westchase Express at 3:30 PM EDT.
