The Hoptown Hoppers lost Triple Crown Winner and OVL All-Star Blake Jackson one game into the postseason. Miraculously, they racked off six straight to boast an undefeated record heading into Game 2 of the OVL Championship Series.
However, after stealing Game 1 in Owensboro, the Hoppers came back down to Earth in a 6-0 defeat.
It was a pitchers’ duel for the first five innings until Owensboro finally got on the board with a run in the sixth.
Two homers for three runs in the eighth sealed the deal before the Riverdawgs put up two more runs in the ninth.
Despite six impeccable innings from Sage Holderfield (12 Ks, 5 BBs, 3 hits, 1 run), the Hopper offense simply couldn’t get home, leaving nine men on base in the shutout.
Cam Curry went the distance to earn the win, striking out 13 and allowing six hits.
Game 3 will be at Chautauqua Park in Owensboro with first pitch set for 6 P.M. on Sunday.
