Easton McGee got roughed up for the first time this season for Class A Hudson Valley but did have a silver lining despite being tagged with the loss.

McGee (3-1) lasted just three innings and allowed nine hits and seven earned runs. He struck out two and walked one in Hudson Valley’s 9-6 to Lowell.

One bright spot for McGee was that he retired former Major Leaguer Brandon Phillips twice – on a fly out and a ground out. The former National League All-Star with Cincinnati signed a minor league deal with Boston late last month and reported to Class A Lowell last week.

Hudson Valley (15-9) leads the New York-Penn League McNamara standings by three games over Brooklyn.
