Burns Among Eight Hoppers Named to OVL All-Star Team

Caldwell County graduate Shane Burns is among eight Hoptown Hoppers named to the West Team for the Ohio Valley League All-Star Game Sunday. The Hoppers will host the third annual All-Star Game at Christian County’s Colonel Field.

Burns is 1-0 for the Hoppers with a 1.72 ERA. He has allowed just nine hits in 15 innings pitched and has 25 strikeouts in 15 innings pitched.

Other Hoppers named to the All-Star team are:

– Third baseman Blake Jackson (Middle Georgia State), who is hitting. 403 with six homers and a league-high 27 RBIs. His six homers and 27 hits are both second-most in the league.

– Pitcher Brian Coffey (New Mexico) leads the OVL with four wins. He has a 4.38 ERA and has struck out 27 batters in 24 innings

– Pitcher Christian Edwards (Jacksonville State) has not been scored upon out of the bullpen for the Hoppers in four appearances.

– Cole Cummings (New Mexico) is batting .362 with 13 RBIs and 25 hits.

– Pitcher Hassan Westbrook (Thomas University) has not been scored upon in six relief appearances for the Hoppers. He has struck out 11 batters in six innings and has two saves.

– Catcher Matt Keane (VMI) is hitting .219 with 14 RBIs and is one of the best defensive catchers in the OVL.

– Outfielder MJ Rookard (Middle Georgia State) is batting .358 with 15 RBIs and 15 runs scored.

Players from Hoptown, Paducah, Madisonville, and Fulton comprise the West All-Stars, while players from Muhlenberg County, Dubois County, Owensboro, and Henderson make up the East squad.

Skills competitions to include a home run contest will begin Sunday at 3pm. First pitch of the game will be at 6pm.
