American Legion Post 68 of Eddyville split a doubleheader with Rockport, Indiana Saturday, losing the first game in walk-off fashion.
Travis Yancy doubled home the tying run for Post 68 in the sixth inning to knot the game at 4-4. Rockport. However, two singles and two walks plated the winning run for Rockport.
Noah Brown and Conner Guthrie each had two hits for Post 68, with four different players driving in runs.
In the nightcap, Cameron Head pitched a four-hit shutout as Post 68 snapped a two-game losing streak to Rockport with a 5-0 win.
Head struck out seven and didn’t anyone, needing just 74 pitches in seven innings to complete the gem.
Jase Ryan Felker doubled home a run in the first, and Cameron Dean followed with a sacrifice fly to give Post 68 an early 2-0 lead. The Felker double was part of a two-hit day for the Caldwell County graduate.
Dean singled ahead of a Travis Yancy two-run homer in the sixth inning to double the lead to 4-0.
Post 68 rounded out the scoring in the seventh when Noah Brown singled and scored on a Conner Guthrie double.
Post 68, made up of players age 18 and under from western Kentucky, is now 7-5 on the season. They have a doubleheader scheduled at South Fulton, Tennessee Monday.
