Wenyen Gabriel was the lone Kentucky Wildcat that entered the NBA draft but did not hear his name called.
It didn’t come to much surprise, though, as he wasn’t in many (if any) mock drafts leading up to Thursday night.
However, it was interesting to watch players like UCLA’s Thomas Welsh be selected late while Gabriel’s name remained on the board.
Nonetheless, Gabriel should earn a spot on a training camp roster and will most likely end up in the NBA’s G-league or overseas.
Gabriel pondered for a long time before opting to stay in the draft over returning for his junior season at Kentucky.
He averaged 6.8 points and 5.4 rebounds in 37 games for Kentucky last season.
His three point shot increased drastically along with his muscle/awareness on the court.
Wherever he lands, Gabriel shouldn’t have any trouble finding a role on a professional team.
