Following the draft decisions of Jarred Vanderbilt, PJ Washington and Wenyen Gabriel, a report was released Monday that Reid Travis will visit the University of Kentucky.
Due to Gabriel and Vanderbilt’s departures for the NBA Draft, Travis’s visit is evidence that he could potentially join the school’s basketball program for the upcoming season as a grad transfer.
Averaging 19 points and eight rebounds last season at Stanford, the former Cardinal could come in and be an immediate impact in the front court for the Wildcats. He’s not just a banger inside, though, as he put up 61 three point attempts last year. While he only made 18 (29%), the volume a sign of his ability to space the floor and open driving lanes for Kentucky’s guards.
The potential addition of Travis would bolster an already loaded roster for Kentucky. Considering they’re rather young, adding a veteran player may be just what the team needs.
Kentucky’s rotation would likely be as follows:
Guards
Ashton Hagans (potential reclassification), Immanuel Quickley, Jemarl Baker, Quade Green, Tyler Herro
Forwards
E.J. Montgomery, Keldon Johnson, PJ Washington, Reid Travis
Centers
Nick Richards
The Pac-12 doesn’t scream high competition, but it should be noted Travis did some damage against potential number-one pick DeAndre Ayton this past year. In the first game against Arizona he netted 20 points with 10 rebounds and followed up the performance with 23 points and 10 rebounds the second time they met.
As 2019 commit Ashton Hagans nears his eligibility to reclassify for the 2018 season, adding him with Travis would be a ginormous win for John Calipari and a heck of a way to cap off their off-season.
