The highly anticipated third showdown of the softball season between the Christian County Lady Colonels and the Madisonville Lady Maroons will have to wait a little longer to reach its conclusion. The regional semifinal between the two teams was suspended Tuesday evening due to weather conditions in the bottom of the 4th inning with Christian County clinging to a 5-4 lead and the Lady Maroons still at the bat. It will now be at least Thursday before the game is finished.
The game got off to a rough start for the Lady Colonels. Madisonville plated three runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 3-0 lead. In addition to Madisonville’s quick start, the Lady Colonels had another issue to deal with in the early part of the game.
Senior pitcher Lexie O’Daniel appeared to be battling some sort of arm or shoulder issue and was moved from pitcher to second base after only 1 1/3 innings. She gave up three runs on four hits, walking two and striking out only one. Regan Hancock entered the game and promptly got the Lady Colonels out of a one out jam.
Christian County got on the board in the top of the third inning on an RBI single by O’Daniel and an RBI double from Hope Jones, cutting the Madisonville lead to 3-2.
The Lady Colonels then moved in front in the top of the 4th inning, scoring three more runs. The big hit of the inning was a two RBI single from O’Daniel.
Madisonville began a rally in the bottom of the inning, scoring one run before rain forced the suspension of the game.
The game was scheduled to resume Wednesday, with Madisonville having a runner on first base and two outs, but field conditions at Mortons Gap forced the postponement until at least Thursday.
The second semifinal between Caldwell County and Crittenden County is set to take place following the conclusion of the Christian County-Madisonville game.
