Southeastern Community College in Iowa will keep their ties to Hopkinsville High School’s basketball team alive for at least two more seasons after Stephen “Shorty” Cager signed with the school Wednesday.

Former Hopkinsville standout Kourtney Ware has starred for the Iowa school the past two seasons. He averaged 13.2 points last year and has earned several postseason honors.

Now Cager will take his talents to West Burlington, Iowa.

It was a tumultuous senior season for Cager, who was picked by many to be in the mix for preseason region player of the year. He missed the first 17 games of the season while serving an athletic suspension before he was reinstated by the school system. Upon his return, Cager averaged 22.4 points a game and shot 42-percent from the field while keeping his reputation as one of the top defenders in the region.

In addition to earning all-district and all-region honors, Cager scored over 1,300 points in his Hoptown career.
