Bryce Smith was ready to bid his basketball career farewell and prepared for college during the last week of Hopkinsville’s season. Then a text message from Tiger assistant coach Larry Miller changed everything.

Miller said Spaulding University in Louisville was interested in the senior shooting guard. Bryce agreed to put his Murray State plans on hold and attended Spaulding and met with the coaches. On Wednesday, Smith decided to continue his academic and athletic career at Spaulding by signing a letter of agreement.

Smith took on a larger role at Hoptown his senior year due to injuries to teammates. He averaged eight points and three rebounds, while leading Hoptown in 3-pointers (48). He shot 42-percent from the field and 38-percent from 3-point range.

Spaulding is an NCAA Division III school that plays in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
