Livingston Central will be the No. 1 seed in the wide-open Fifth District Baseball Tournament scheduled to begin Monday at Gordon Guess Field in Marion.
The Cardinals (15-7) tied with Trigg County for the best record in the district with identical 5-1 marks. Livingston won a coin toss to get the top seed.
Livingston Central won the district title as the two-seed last year. They enter the postseason winners of four of their last five games but dropped their regular season finale to Calloway County 7-1 Thursday.
The Cardinals will play No. 4 seed Crittenden County (9-18) Monday at 5:30. The Rockets won just five times in their first 19 games but are 4-4 over the final eight games of the regular season.
Livingston beat Crittenden twice during the regular season – 9-5 in Smithland and 8-0 in Marion. While the Rockets are the four-seed, they have upset the top seed in the district tournament each of the last two seasons.
In the 7:30 nightcap, two-seed Trigg County will play three-seed Lyon County. The Wildcats saw their streak of four straight district titles end last year with an extra inning loss to Livingston Central in the semifinals.
Trigg County (16-11) ended the regular season with three wins in their final four games. The Wildcats beat Lyon County in a pair of closely contested games during the regular season. Trigg won 9-7 in Eddyville and 3-2 in Cadiz.
Lyon County (12-13) won three of five to end the regular season. The Lyons are looking for their first district title since 1997.
Monday’s winners will meet in the championship game Tuesday at 6pm, and both teams automatically advance to next week’s Second Region Baseball Tournament at Christian County.
