Sometimes a year can make a big difference when it comes to high school athletics. During the 2017 state tennis tournament, Caldwell County’s Ben Knight lost in straight sets in the first round. Thursday, the Caldwell County senior was able to impressively win his first match, before falling to the overall #2 seed in the second round of play.
Knight began his day taking on Hayden Jaco, of Marshall County. Knight rolled through the match, picking up the win by the score of 6-0, 6-1.
Things got a little bit tougher in the next round of play however. With his first round win, Knight moved on to the round of 32 to take on overall #2 seed Alex Wesbrooks, of St. Xavier. Westbrooks was able to pick up the win with some key service breaks in each set, and moved on by the score of 6-2, 6-1.
Afterwards, Knight talked about his win at the state tournament and his future plans in college.
