Former Fort Campbell soccer player and Hopkinsville boys’ assistant coach Michael Massie has been hired as the new Fort Campbell boys’ soccer coach, taking over from Alex Romero. Romero had been at the helm for the last five seasons, compiling a 23-54-2 record.
Massie played for the Falcons under Coach Joel Brown from 2007-2009, playing on a 2nd Region runner-up team in ’08 and a regional champion in ’09. He spent the last seven seasons on the sidelines for Hopkinsville as an assistant to head coach Tyler Stallons.
Massie says Hopkinsville, “became a huge part of my life,” but he couldn’t pass up the opportunity to coach his alma mater. About the job ahead of him, Massie states he will, “make the changes necessary for this program to be successful again,” and while he knows it won’t be a quick-fix, he is, “100% dedicated to getting this program back on track.”
