Henderson County outslugged Trigg County Saturday 14-8 to pick up the win in a game between two of the 2nd Region’s darkhorse candidates. The Colonels scored in five of their seven at bats to get the road victory.
Henderson broke on top early in the game, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning. The Colonels took advantage of two walks and two Trigg County errors in the ining.
Trigg County came back with two runs in the bottom of the inning. Savion Radford connected on an RBI double to left field. Hayden Cunningham had an RBI single two batters later to cut the Henderson lead to 3-2 after one inning.
The Wildcats then got to the lead in the bottom of the second inning. Riley Stallons doubled to center field driving in two runs and putting Trigg County in the lead at 4-3. Savion Radford followed with a home run to drive in Stallons and extend the Trigg lead to 6-3 after two.
Henderson County then took the lead for good with five runs in the top of the 3rd inning. Most of the damage was done when the Colonels hit back-to-back doubles after receiving three straight walks. Henderson extended the lead to 11-6 with three more runs in the top of the 5th inning.
Trigg County made one last effort to get back in the game in the bottom of the 5th inning scoring a run on a Henderson County error and a Nick Ahart RBI single.
The Colonels then sealed the win, adding three insurance runs in the top of the 6th inning.
Savion Radford was 3-4 in the game with a home run and 3 RBIs. Nick Ahart was 3-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Riley Stallons ended up 2-4 with 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored.
