An up and down night for the Lyon County Lady Lyons Friday. The Lady Lyons split a pair of games with Ballard Memorial, winning the opener 7-1 and then falling in the nightcap 18-7.
In the first game of the evening, Allye Culp held the Lady Bomber in check, allowing just the one run on six hits, while striking out two and walking none.
Meanwhile, the Lady Lyons offense scored two runs in the first, three in the second and two more in the 4th inning to get the win. In the first inning, Calista Collins had an RBI single and later scored on an error. The Lady Lyons came up with back to back doubles from T. Schenk and Collins to do most of the damage in the 2nd inning. In the 4th, Collins had an RBI double to key the Lady Lyons to two more runs.
For the game, Calista Collins went 3-4 with two doubles and 3 RBI’s, while Sydney Melton was 2-4 with an RBI and a run scored.
In the second game of the evening, six errors were too much for the Lady Lyons to overcome as Ballard rolled to the big win. The Lady Bombers came out of the gate swinging, using six hits and a Lyon County error to put seven runs on the scoreboard.
Lyon battled back in the bottom of the inning, scoring four runs of their own. The big hit was a three run homer by Kaelyn Conger that cut the lead to 7-4.
Ballard got right back at it in the top of the 2nd inning, plating three more runs to push the lead to 10-4. Again, the Lady Lyons fought right back, scoring three of their own to make it a 10-7 game. The big shot in the inning was a bases clearing triple by Allye Culp to score all three runs of the inning for Lyon County.
The Lady Bombers then closed out the game with three runs in the 5th and five more in the top of the 6th to gain the doubleheader split.
Sydney Melton was 3-4 in the game with a couple of runs scored. Kaelyn Conger and Allye Culp were each 1-3 with 3 RBI’s. And, Tori Schenk was 2-4 with an RBI for the Lady Lyons.
