The Christian County Colonels scored in each of the first three innings as they completed a perfect regular season run through the 8th District Friday night. The Colonels defeated UHA 10-3 in a game played at Colonel Field.
The Blazers took an early lead as they scored a run in the top of the 1st inning. Drew McGowan led off the game with a double and scored on an RBI single by Eston Glover to make it 1-0.
The Colonels quickly responded by scoring four runs in the bottom of the inning. Christian County opened the inning with three straight singles, the last of which was an RBI single from Wyatt Stevenson to drive in Eric Silvy, which combined with a UHA error put the Colonels in front 2-1. Elijah Owens capped off the scoring by driving in two runs with a base hit to left field, giving the Colonels a 4-1 lead after one.
UHA got two of the runs back in the top of the 2nd. Drew McGowan hit an RBI double and then later scored on a pitch that got away from the catcher.
Christian County got an unearned run in the bottom of the second to make it 5-3. The Colonels then put the game away with five runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning. Christian County took advantage of four walks in the inning. The big hit came from Wyatt Stevenson, who drove in two runs on a hit to right field. By the time the inning was over, the Colonels lead 10-3.
Neither team was able to get a run across the plate from that point forward.
For UHA, Drew McGowan was 2-3 with an RBI and two runs scored. Elijah Owens paced the Colonel attack, going 3-4 with 2 RBIs. Austin Fields went 2-3 with an RBI and three runs score.
Austin Fields picked up the win for Christian County, who will be the top seed in the 8th District baseball tournament. Fields went five innings, giving up three runs on four hits, striking out seven and walking seven.
