After going six years between wins over the Madisonville Lady Maroons, the Christian County Lady Colonels have now handily defeated the defending state champions twice in one week. The Lady Colonels got all the offense they needed for the night in the first inning Thursday as they beat Madisonville 6-0 at Lady Colonel Field.
Lady Colonels pitcher Lexie O’Daniel limted the Lady Maroons to five hits over seven innings in picking up the win. She also picked up 11 strikeouts in the game. The only serious trouble for O’Daniel came in the 2nd inning when Madisonville loaded the bases with two outs. She was able to get a strikeout to end the inning and the threat.
Christian County did all of their offensive damage in the first inning with two outs. Lexie O’Daniel hit a two out double. She scored on an RBI double by Tyler Shemwell. Shemwell then scored on an RBI single from Hope Jones. Reni Shemwell then crushed a two run homer to left field to make it 4-0. And, the Lady Colonels were not quite finished.
Taylor Shemwell and Regan Hancock came up with back to back singles. Halle Hendricks and Pickle Winkler then finished the attack with RBI singles to make it 6-0. For the rest of the game, Madisonville pitcher Courtney Patterson clamped down on the Lady Colonels, but the damage was already done.
Reni Shemwell was 1-3 with a home run and two RBIs. Hope Jones was 2-3 with an RBI. Taylor Shemwell was 2-3, and Pickle Winker was 2-4.
The win was the 10th in a row for the Lady Colonels, and improved their record to 25-3-1
