Caldwell County got a strong pitching performance from Jase Ryan Felker and some timely hits in a 4-2 win over Trigg County Thursday at the VFW Ballpark.
Felker scattered seven hits over six innings and struck out seven in improving his record to 3-1. He also added two hits and an RBI at the plate.
Dylan Gray gave Caldwell an early 1-0 lead with an RBI single to left.
Felker struggled with control early, giving up a walk and singles to Trevor Cortner and Nick Ahart to load the bases. Riley Stallons scored one on a groundout. Consecutive walks added another Trigg run for a 2-1 lead. However, Felker settled down and retired the next seven batters.
Felker’s RBI single in the third tied the game at 2-2.
Caldwell County took a 3-2 lead in the fifth inning on consecutive singles by Gabe East, Felker, Gray, and Shane Burns. A double play by the Wildcat defense ended the inning and the threat.
The Tigers added an insurance run in the sixth inning when Tate VanHooser doubled and scored on a throwing error.
Two big stats in the game were the zero errors by the Caldwell defense and Trigg stranding six runners in scoring position.
VanHooser, Felker, and Gray had two hits each for Caldwell, who had nine hits in the game.
Trevor Cortner and Darrin Brown each had two hits for Trigg County, who only scored two of 12 runners in the game.
Tyler Ladd pitched well but suffered the loss, allowing three earned runs in five innings of work. He struck out three.
Trigg County sees their three-game winning streak end and their record drop to 13-9. They will host both Henderson County and Madisonville Saturday in a split doubleheader.
Caldwell County (19-5) will host Muhlenberg County Saturday.
