Caldwell County’s Chasie Phelps and Hana Dixon defended their girls’ doubles region title the way you want – dominant in the early rounds and all business throughout.
Phelps and Dixon came in to the region tourney as the top seed and breezed through the first two rounds with 6-0, 6-0 wins. They defeated No. 2 seed Emily Shockley and Emily Fischels of Madisonville 6-2, 6-4 to claim their second straight region title.
For Dixon, a freshman, it’s her second straight doubles title. For Phelps, a sophomore, it’s her third straight doubles title. She teamed with Belle Englebright to win the 2016 title after losing in the 2015 championship match.
It marked the fifth straight year Caldwell County has put a team in the girls’ doubles championship match.
Both Lady Tigers said their experience in past region and state matches helped them get off to a fast start in region play.
In addition to the finalists, Hopkinsville’s Skylar Ray and Anna Maddux and Henderson County’s Kally Priest and Isabelle Wright will also advance to the KHSAA State Tennis Tournament May 17-19 in Lexington.
