Caldwell County’s Katie Franklin and Marshall County’s Aubree Jo Kemp engaged in an old-fashioned pitcher’s duel Thursday in Draffenville. Both pitchers allowed just one hit and struck out seven. The difference was a single unearned run that gave the Lady Marshals a 1-0 win and sent Caldwell County to their first four-game losing streak in three seasons.
Sarenna Tomassi walked in the fourth inning, advanced to second on a Caldwell error and scored on a Gracey Murt single to left field for the only run of the game.
Franklin needed only 75 pitches for the complete game and walked just one.
Caldwell’s lone hit was a Madi Choate first inning single. Kemp retired 11 of the last 12 Lady Tigers she faced.
Caldwell County’s last 1-0 loss was against Lyon County in the 2016 All-A Classic Region title game.
The Lady Tigers (9-7) will try and snap their losing streak Friday against Paducah Tilghman in Princeton.
