The Caldwell County Lady Tigers clinched their berth in the Sunday championship bracket of the All A state softball tournament by simply overwhelming 7th Region representative Whitefield Academy. The Lady Tigers scored 14 runs in the first inning, nine of them before there was an out in the game, and rolled to a 21-0 win. Most of the Lady Tiger starters did not play after the first inning of the game.
The Lady Tigers first ten batters reached base in the game, 8 of those by base hit, and two by Whitefield errors. The big hits in the inning were a two run home run by Madi Choate, who also had a two run triple in the inning, an RBI triple from J’Amiee Burke, and an RBI double from Allie Felker.
The Lady Tigers came up with three more runs in the 2nd inning and fours runs in the 3rd inning.
In the circle, Peyton Young pitched all three innings, giving up no runs, on one hit, and striking out six.
Madi Choate had a big game for the Lady Tigers, going 2-2 with 4 RBIs, a home run and a triple. Shelby Lane came off the bench to go 2-2 with 3 RBI’s for Caldwell County.
Through the first two games of pool play, Caldwell County scored 24 runs, allowed no runs, and gave up only two hits.
