It was a pretty solid week for former Hopkinsville High golfer Austin Knight. His bid for All-OVC Tournament honors fell just short for the Murray State sophomore in Wednesday’s final round of the 2018 OVC Men’s Golf Championship, as he carded a 3-over-par 75 and finished with a spot in 13th place.

Knight finished the event with rounds of 72-74-75=221 and was the Racers’ top finisher at the Shoals GC, Fighting Joe course in Muscle Shoals, Alabama.

Other MSU scores and finishes included Lance Davis in 45th place on rounds of 81-74-79=234 and Connor Coombs in 48th place on scores of 79-80-80=239. Justin Wendling placed 51st on scores of 87-81-78=246. While Gabe Wheeler placed 54th on rounds of 82-87-83=252.

The Racers ended with a 10th place finish on scores of 314-309-312=935.

Jacksonville State claimed the title and will represent the OVC at the NCAA Championship after rounds of 286-289-300 875, ahead of second place Eastern Kentucky 296-289-295=880.

The OVC also sends its individual winner to the NCAA Championship and this time it came down to a playoff. Morehead State’s Nick Wilkins finished with a share of first place on scores of 69-76-71=216 as did Belmont’s Jack Uselton who had scores of 72-75-69=216. Wilkins won the three-hole aggregate playoff 12-14.
